MAX WALSCHEID SPRINTED TO HIS SECOND VICTORY IN TWO DAYS AT THE TOUR OF HAINAN, AND REMAINS THE LEADER IN THE GENERAL AND POINTS CLASSIFICATION.
With the start in Chengmai, the stage covered 159.4 km, with a cat. 4 climb along the way. The stage saw an eight-rider breakaway move clear, gaining four minutes before the bunch tightened the leash and reduce their gap. A bunch sprint always looked on the cards, and with 30km to go the advantage was being held at around two minutes.
In the finale, everything came back together and Team Giant-Alpecin were among those working hard at the head of the peloton and were the dominant sprint train going into the finale. Once again, Max Walscheid was the strongest and took an emphatic victory in the sprint finish. Crossing the line after him were Roberto Ferrari (Lampre-Merida) and Adrian Kurek (CCC Sprandi Polkowice).
